Course Content

What is the object of the course?

  • Teach you how to fit shoes to a professionally recommended standard.
  • To empower you to educate and advise your customer professionally.
  • Give the public the most comfortable fit.
  • Prevent unnecessary foot ailments so that Podiatrists have more time and budget for those with serious conditions.
  • Help the environment - better shoes, better prices, less landfill!
  • Sell more shoes!

Confidence is achieved by demonstrating a good working knowledge of the foot and shoe.

Co-operation is obtained through your skill as a salesperson and as a Qualified Shoe Fitter

Neither objective is achieved by seeking to 'blind your customer with science'.

As the course progresses you will understand:

  • The various parts of the shoe and their technical names.
  • How a shoe is made and the different construction methods.
  • Materials and their characteristics in terms of both manufacture and in wear.
  • All about shoe sizes - why they are not standard and straightforward.
  • How to fit from start to finish and what to consider along the way.
  • How the shoe trade works, the differences in shoe retailers, who is qualified who is not, what to consider when opening a shoe shop, the vast differences between main stream fashion and the footwear industry and considering overall customer care.

And the extra section for shoe retail staff will include:

  • Lower limb anatomy.
  • How the foot develops and learn the basic functions of the foot at rest and in motion.
  • Problem feet - how to recognise, what to look for, possible consequences, advice to give and how to work with them.

Not only will this increase your personal knowledge enabling you to become a professional shoe fitter, but it will also benefit your customers/patients and increase sales.

Undoubtedly you will benefit from greater job satisfaction as your increased knowledge will bring footwear to life, therefore your companies trading position will be enhanced and in turn the public will be made more aware of the importance of professional shoe fitting.

As you progress through this course you may feel that selling a pair of shoes becomes more protracted and difficult as there is more to consider than anticipated. Not true, on the contrary, with practice you will satisfy your customer's requirements more quickly and provide them with comfortable footwear and best possible service.
